What stone is my birthstone?

How do I choose a birthstone?

With all of the different birthstone charts out there, it can get overwhelming for you to choose just one birthstone.

After you have collected your birthstones and work with them energetically, you will have a better idea of which ones vibe best. Your preferences may also change over time as your life situations change, so it's nice to have all on hand.

Because birthstones are so subjective (as we can see from the variations in charts out there), it is very important that you form your own decision as to which gemstone works for you at the moment. 

Is it good luck to wear your birthstone?

Although you might not win the lottery by wearing your birthstones, you may feel a boost in good energy.

Birthstones are important in crystal healing because they connect your physical self with your spiritual self. To be holistically healthy, you must balance your chakras and your aura.

Birthstones are the metaphysical link between the physical world and your spiritual path.

Should birthstones touch the skin?

It's always beneficial to have your birthstone touching your skin. That contact links your physical body to your spiritual body. However, having your birthstone within your aura (about 3 feet from your physical body) is also beneficial. 

Can you wear a stone that is not your birthstone?

You can wear any stone that is not your birthstone. Every stone will vibrate with you in a different way. It does not have to be your birthstone.

What is the history of birthstones?

Ancient birthstones have been traced back to the Bible and Aaron, the High Priest of the Hebrew's breastplate. He had 12 gemstones set in his breastplate that were related to the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 zodiac signs and eventually the 12 months of the year.

According to first-century translations, the first row contained Carnelian, Chrysolite, and Beryl. The second row contained Jacinth, Agate, and Amethyst. The third row contained Topaz, Onyx, and Jasper.

The names of the crystals during those times wre not as scientifically based as they are now. The translated stones could have been different from what they actually are now. 

The 12 gemstones finally were related to the birth months in the 16th of 18th century in Germany or Poland with the arrival of Jewish gem traders to the region. By this time they were promoting for people to wear only their birthstones. Before this, it was popular to have a collection of all 12 and wear the birthstone of the Zodiac of the Month that you were currently in. 

Meanwhile, ancient birthstones were also found in the Eastern world. Here Hindu religious leaders and astrologers associated gemstones with certain celestial events, gods, days of the week, planets, and birth charts.  

The National Association of Jewelers decided upon the birthstones we use in our modern chart in 1912.
