What is Aventurine?

Aventurine is a form of Quartz crystal, sparkling with flake-shaped inclusions. The glittering appearance has its own term and is known as Aventurescence.

It is pronounced "Ah-ven-chu-reen". It is often misspelled as Adventurine.

What color is Aventurine?

Aventurine is most commonly found in green, but comes in a myriad of natural colors. You can also find this stone in reddish-orange, yellow, pink, brown, white, gray and blue.

Besides causing the glittering Aventurescence, the inclusions in Aventurine can create the different colors. For example, Muscovite and Ilmenite inclusions can cause the gray, yellow or silver version of Aventurine.

Here are the types of Aventurine colors you can find in the gem industry today:

blue aventurine sphere

Blue Aventurine
Blue Aventurine ranges from light to navy blue colored by Dumortierite minerals and sparkles with Mica inclusions. Also known as Blue Quartz.

green aventurine sphere

Green Aventurine
Varies in shades of pale green to dark forest green. The color comes from green Fuchsite and the shine from glittering Mica inclusions.

purple aventurine sphere

Purple Aventurine
This stone gets its color from purple Lepidolite. This Aventurine stone can vary from pale purple to dark midnight purple in color.

red aventurine crystal ball

Red Aventurine
Red Aventurine ranges from light orange to deep red. The color is caused by the presence of very fine stripes of Hematite or Goethite.

Amazing Medleys of Aventurine

Are you ready to bring an array of Abundance into your life? Our clients love Aventurine Medleys for manifesting happiness and success.

Here are the best sellers in wearable gems that will brighten up your fortune, and your wardrobe:

Is Green Quartz the same as Aventurine?

No. Despite Aventurine being a form of Quartz and there is a green version of Aventurine, Green Quartz is a different stone.

Green Quartz is known as Prase and it is always a leek green. Prase gets its light green color from Actinolite or Chlorite inclusions rather than the Fucshite inclusions of Green Aventurine. Prase is not as stable as Aventurine.

Go Green with Aventurine

Are you in love with Green Aventurine?

It is triple green:

  • 1 for the money

  • 2 for the stone

  • 3 for the fact that it's natural from the Earth

Here are the three top Green Aventurine gemstones for healing and abundance manifestation:

Is Aventurine man made?

In the 1600s, Goldstone was created with glass and copper flecks, giving an Aventurescence quality to a manmade stone. It was first named aventura, like Aventurine, so the confusion in the market persisted between this man made stone and the real deal. Goldstone is sometimes known as Aventurine glass.

No, Aventurine is not man made. It is a natural gemstone from the Earth. It should not be confused with what is now known as Goldstone.

Goldstone is very easy to tell from real Aventurine for those who are familiar with stones. The copper flecks in Goldstone are very bright and persistent. The Goldstone glass comes in a solid golden brown, navy blue and rarely dark green color with no color variations. Real Aventurine will show color banding and variations in color from light to dark patches in a single stone.

How to use Aventurine Crystals

Here are a few ideas to get you started on your Aventurine journeys. Whether you are using the stone for healing or decoration, this versatile stone has a range of attractive colors to behold.

  • Place a Green Aventurine over your Heart Chakra to better give and receive love energies.

  • Pair it with Malachite crystals if working on the Heart Chakra because Green Aventurine is a more soothing stone to balance Malachite's power.

  • Use Aventurine tumbled stones as a reminder of your manifestation goals. Whenever you are out and about on your daily routine and absently reach for the stone in your pocket or purse, you will be reminded of your goals.

  • Hold Aventurine pyramids, one in each hand, while you do money manifestations.

  • Place Aventurine stones in the money corner of your room according to Feng Shui Bagua maps for your space.

  • Meditate with Aventurine spheres and eggs for an energy of prosperity and success.

  • Wear Aventurine cufflinks to show off your personal power.

  • Use Aventurine massage wands to relief tension and anxiety from your body and replace it with positive vibrations.

  • Keep Aventurine animal figurines and sacred carvings around your space to enhance creative energies.

  • Aventurine was found among other Quartz tools in Ethiopia dating 2.5 millions years ago. It makes a great material for tools because of its hardness, but it is brittle enough to shape into sharp edges.

Sheila's Personal Experience with Aventurine

My first encounter with the joyful abundance of Aventurine was in the form of the Hindu Elephant God, Ganesh. We had acquired a batch of miniature Aventurine Ganesh carvings at Satin Crystals and I was immediately drawn to the dark green ones. The dark green Aventurine is a coveted color, rich like a flourishing forest, containing flashes of Mica inclusions to delight the senses.

We would place these Aventurine deities at our cash register when we had a physical Satin Crystals shop and until this day I place my Aventurine Ganesh right near my computer for our online shop!

Divination with Aventurine

Drawing Aventurine in a gemstone divination session means: You are on the right path to abundance. Trust your instincts and use the Law of attraction to manifest your desires. Use Aventurine to meet your goals of prosperity.

Magical Incantation of Aventurine

This is a message from Aventurine from Doreen Virtue and Judith Lukomski's book "Crystal Therapy":

"Employ me when learning to receive gifts in the authentic cycle of abundance and prosperity. Most often you are willing and expecting to give, yet you say no unconsciously when presented with opportunities to receive. Accepting all the ways abundance materializes is an integral part of participating in the natural flow. Remember that male (giving) and female (receiving) energies and characteristics are equally important. Just as day and night maintain equilibrium, so do yin and yang...and so must sharing and receiving be part of your daily practice. This process is the basis for healthy relationships with your family and frends, and it alows the Universe to care for you."

Is Jade and Aventurine the same?

When we first started Satin Crystals, I was not yet a jewelry designer. We would buy jewelry from India to resell at the tradeshows. One day, a lady came by our booth and admonished us for selling a green beaded necklace as Jade. She said it was Aventurine and went on her grumpy way.

The Indian vendors had told us the necklae was Jade and in our early naivety, we had believed them! In India they sometimes called Aventurine a Jade. From that point on, I was sure to do my research as thoroughly as possible before trusting a vendor's words.

Scientifically, Aventurine is a much harder stone than Jade. As we discussed earlier, Aventurine is a variety of Quartz whereas Jade comes from Nephrite or Jadeite minerals. Aventurine has that sparkling aventurescence shine and Jade does not. Jade is much more valuable than Aventurine.

Lisa's Personal Experience with Aventurine

To me, Aventurine is a money stone just like Jade... but with extra Bling! I love how the Mica pops out at me with every flash of light.

I too remember intensive usage of Aventurine, Ganesh, and Aventurine Ganesh in our Satin Crystals storefront for bringing success to our business. We didn't use Aventurine alone though, we paired it up with its power cousin Citrine. These two stones together make it rain with cash!

I have a cash lock box at home that my grandmother gave me decades ago. Inside the box are my collectible treasures. I have a wad of mint $2 bills given to me by an aunt when I was young. I have a silver dollar bill that a neighbor unknowingly gave me when I was fundraising in elementary school. I have some rare and unusual Thai baht that are long out of circulation, among other foreign notes.

And guess what else I have in there? Aventurine and Citrine stones!

Where does Aventurine come from?

Aventurine is found in several locations around the world including India, Brazil, Russia, China, Norway and South Africa.

Caring for your Aventurine

Your Aventurine pieces should be handled with care so they don't chip or break. Aventurine can be placed under running water or soaked in soapy water. Be aware that if there are natural fractures or veins in the stone, these may be spots of weakness when subjected to water, heat, or chemicals.

Do not keep it near stones harder than 6.5 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness if you don't want it to get scratched.
