How do you care for your Unakite?
Unakite is a relatively stable stone. It can be cleaned under water. Polished pieces are usually safe in a water bath, but take care of rough pieces or pieces with visible fracture lines. These may have weak spots that can wear down in prolonged water soaks.
When in doubt, just use a soft cloth or soft brush depending on your piece. Either way, make sure your stone is completely dry before storage.
Store Unakite away from items harder than a 6 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness to avoid scratches. If your environment has high humidity, consider using a dehumidifier.
Avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners so you don't break your stone. If using soap, make sure it is thoroughly rinsed to avoid build-up.

Lisa's personal experience with Unakite
When I look at Unakite, I feel young and energetic. The pink and green tones are reminiscent of a springtime field. Time stands still and I become a part of the everlasting energy called life.
My most intense experience with Unakite happened when I was pregnant. This stone is known to aid individuals and couples who are on their conception and pregnancy journey. As I had my share of difficult times during pregnancy, I made sure the keep Unakite gemstones and jewelry around to make the best of it. In the end, my son was born strong and healthy. You can read more about it and watch my video in the Pregnancy Crystals article.
I continue to cherish the unique stone called Unakite. Now I turn to this gem whenever I have writer's block at Satin Crystals. As it nurtures creativity, my ideas and words begin to flow when I rub a Unakite tumbled stone or sphere kept near.
I tend to think of myself as logic-based more than artistic. But with Unakite around, I am reminded that I am truly a creative soul, inspired by Source itself. I thank this beautiful healing crystal for being a part of my life journey.

As a creator of gemstone jewelry, Unakite acts as one of my muses. Along with Carnelian, it is one of the stones I turn to when I'm feeling unmotivated or suffering from a creative block.
Holding these two crystals releases clogged thoughts from my mind and allows me to take a step back from the current obstacles. Together they help to renew my creative energy so that I am ready to approach my projects with a fresh perspective.

When was Unakite discovered?
Unakite was first recorded in 1874 and named after the Unaka mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.
How does Unakite form?
Unakite forms from the alteration of granite by hydrothermal fluids (think lots of water, heat, and pressure in the Earth's core). This transforms the Plagioclase Feldspar in the granite into Epidote. The Quartz and Orthoclase Feldspar are unaffected by the process.
The resulting stone is composed of Epidote, Orthoclase Feldspar, and Quartz and is then referred to as Unakite.
Where is Unakite found in the world?
Unakite is found worldwide with notable mines in the USA, South Africa, China, Brazil, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone.
Where should you put Unakite?
You should place Unakite in the bedroom for bonding energy with your partner. Ideally, place one on each side of the bed. If you are single, you can place Unakite in a visible area so you signal to the Universe that you are ready for a loving relationship.
You can also choose to place Unakite wherever you are beginning a new project - a garage, a studio, or even the kitchen.
For Feng Shui energy, place Unakite in the "New Beginnings & Family" area of your space. Whether you want to add to your family or refresh your current relationships, placing Unakite in this area will be beneficial. Unakite is about creating new opportunities and strengthening family bonds.

Can Unakite be worn every day?
Unakite jewelry can be worn every day as long as you handle it with care. It is a relatively hard stone, but you will still want to make sure it's not constantly hitting a surface like a bracelet on a computer desk.
Be aware that all natural gemstone beads will wear down over time with daily wear. The polish may also wear off with water, weathering, sweat, and environmental conditions.
